ABILENE, Texas (October 26, 2013) – Lubbock Christian University received goals from four different individuals and the Lady Chaparrals remained perfect in Heartland Conference play (6-0-0) with a 4-1 victory over McMurry University Saturday afternoon at Edwards Field.
The Lady Chaps continued their first half dominance in conference play Saturday (LCU has outscored opponents 14-3 in the first half in conference games) with a pair of first half goals. Jessica Bailey opened the scoring 5:48 into the game with a shot from the interior of the box after receiving a cross from Emily Odom. In the 21st minute, Ryann Blount sent a long distance shot that perfectly found the upper left corner of the goal frame for her second goal of the season and a 2-0 lead. LCU had not allowed a goal through five conference games in the second half, but the trend would end in the 50th minute with Paige Harwell cutting LCU's lead in half with a goal for the War Hawks. A scramble in the box off a LCU corner kick led to Brooke Wendl sending a loose ball into the netting for her fifth goal of the season and a 3-1 lead in the 62nd minute. Coree Childree closed the scoring in the 71st minute of the season with her third career goal and the first of the season.
LCU out-shot McMurry 25-4 in the game and had an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Anissa Arenas stopped seven of LCU's shots in the losing effort for MCM. Story stopped one of two shots to claim the win. Brie Munoz finished the game with a pair of assists for LCU.
The Lady Chaps are 9-5-0 following the win and they are 6-0-0 in conference play. McMurry moves to 4-7-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the conference with the loss. Lubbock Christian heads to Austin, Texas Monday and will face No.17 St. Edward's University at 2:30 p.m.
