LUBBOCK, Texas (October 24, 2013) – The Lady Chaps return to the court after their first loss in just under a month, dating back to September 26. LCU takes on Newman University Thursday at 7 p.m. and Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday at noon followed by a non-conference match against Wiley College at 2:30 p.m.

Thursday's match versus Newman University marks LCU's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Support the cause by wearing pink to the match and making a donation at the door. The benefits will go towards Renee Wilson, former basketball player for LCU, who was recently diagnosed with stage-three breast cancer. Wilson is currently a student on leave in Galveston at the University of Texas Medical School.

Lubbock Christian defeated Texas A&M International in three sets on October 17 to mark the team's sixth win in a row, the longest such run since the 2011 season in which the team won 11 straight. On October 19 the Lady Chaps faced St. Mary's, earning a win in the first set but the wheels quickly fell off, allowing the Rattlers to win the next three games and the match. Producing 75 points amongst the four games, the sixteen points accumulated by LCU in sets two and three also tied a season low for points in one game. While allowing an opponent to hit over .300 for only the second time this season, LCU's .133 attack percentage was the lowest since September 14.

For the fifth consecutive week, Lubbock Christian earned Volleyball Player of the Week recognition from the Heartland Conference. Erin Fisher earned Setter of the Week for the fourth time while Amy Edwards secured her first Hitter of the Week.

On October 17 against TAMIU, Fisher dealt out a match-high 52 assists in just three sets. Versus St. Mary's on October 19, she again totaled a match-high with 43 assists to go along with a team-high 16 digs. Fisher leads the conference with 607 assists at an average of 11.45 per set.

Edwards had a monster game against TAMIU, recording a career and game-high 20 kills to go along with 1.5 blocks in three sets. On her 34 attempts she acquired only one error versus the Dustdevils, hitting .559 for the match. Against St. Mary's, she produced a team-high 13 kills while hitting .333.

The two weekly awards mark the seventh time a Lady Chap has been recognized as a Volleyball Player of the Week in 2013. Fisher's four Setter of the Week awards, alongside Kacey Deterding's two Hitter of the Week accolades and Edwards' recent honor gives Lubbock Christian the most awards from one team in the Heartland. St. Mary's sits in second place with four.

LCU stands first in the Heartland Conference with 13.37 kills per set. Kacey Deterding continues lead all hitters at 4.01 kills per game and MB Amy Edwards sits in fifth place with 2.94 per game. Edwards sits third in the ranks for hitting percentage at .290 while the Lady Chaps are ranked third in the league at .184.

LCU's record stands perfect against Newman University, OPSU and Wiley College. The Lady Chaps have an all-time history of 24-0 against the three teams. LCU traveled to OPSU and Newman September 19 and 21, respectively, winning in three sets against the Aggies and holding off the Jets in five.
