LUBBOCK, Texas (October 23, 2013) – The Heartland Conference announced their weekly conference honors and Lubbock Christian University swept the honors with Nick Gorrie claiming Heartland Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Erik Mozzo receiving Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Gorrie helped LCU to a 2-0-0 week with road conference wins over Newman and Rogers State by notching three goals and an assist for seven points in two games. The senior midfielder from Scotland had the game winning goal in each game, including the overtime goal at Rogers State. Gorrie now has three game winning goals on the season and six in his LCU career. He has 13 points on the season ranking him eighth in the conference and is tied for second in game winning goals (3).
Mozzo helped the Chaps notch their fifth shutout of the season at Newman in which he played 72:47 of the 90 minutes. He followed stopping five of six shots at Rogers State in an overtime win. The senior goalkeeper from Beaufort, S.C. produced a 2-0-0 record on the week with an 85.7% save percentage and a 0.54 GAA. On the season, Mozzo has a 1.17 GAA (second in the conference) and has a conference-leading 79.7% save percentage. He co-leads the conference with four shutouts.
The award for Gorrie is his first and it is Mozzo's second conference honor. LCU is 7-4-1 overall and they rank third in the conference with a 4-1-0 record. The Chaps return to action Saturday at noon Abilene, Texas facing McMurry.
