WICHITA, Kan. (October 19, 2013) – Lubbock Christian University held an opponent without a shot on goal for a second time this season, and goalkeeper Lauren Story could not have asked for an easier game to enter the program record books as the career and single-season individual leader in shutouts, as the Lady Chaparrals blanked Newman University 3-0 Saturday night in Heartland Conference action for Story's sixth shutout of the season and her career.

LCU was able to focus on a defensive minded game after striking quickly offensively. Freshman Jamie Boone scored her fifth goal of the season 10:11 into the contest after being set up by Brooke Wendl to give LCU a 1-0 lead. Just 2:25 later, LCU increased the lead to 2-0 with Jessica Bailey scoring her second goal of the season (sixth in her career). Freshman Arian Parr would seal the scoring in the 58th minute by heading in Ryann Blount's corner kick for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Chaps out-shot Newman 11-7 and they had an 8-0 advantage in shots on goal. Jets goalkeeper Haley Borchers stopped five of the eight shots in the losing effort to fall to 5-7-0 on the season. The Jets moved to 5-7-0 with the loss and 2-3-0 in conference play.
Story surpassed teammate Allison Brinson in career shutouts with her sixth of the career. She also snapped Brinson's single season mark for shutouts in a season, as Brinson had five in 2011. LCU improved to 7-5-0 on the season and 4-0-0 in Heartland Conference play. Six of LCU's seven wins have been via shutouts, along with three of their four conference wins.

LCU will take a shutout sequence of 228:00 into Monday's contest in Claremore, Okla. against Rogers State University. They also take a four-game win streak into the game. The four-game win streak is the program's longest streak of consecutive conference wins. LCU is 4-1-0 in the month of October this season. They had combined for five wins after September in their three-year program history prior to this season.
