ODESSA, Texas (October 7, 2013) – Emily Odom produced a pair of goals and Kristin Fellows had a three-point game to help Lubbock Christian University shutout University of Texas of the Permian Basin 4-0 Monday afternoon in each team's Heartland Conference opener at UTPB Soccer Field.

LCU was without points leader Brooke Wendl, but they received support from the career performances of Fellows and Odom. Odom opened the scoring in the 19th minute, as a long throw in from Fellows was touched by Priscilla Brannon to the top of the box to set-up Odom for a 1-0 lead. Jocelynn Richardson picked up her first career point with an assist by sending a long through-pass to Fellows, who ended up on a breakaway. She converted on the breakaway in the 39th minute for her first career goal (26th career game). LCU led 2-0 heading into the half.

Odom connected on her second goal in the 54th minute taking advantage of a mishap by goalkeeper Bridget Esquivel. After picking up a ball in the box, Esquivel was trying to throw the ball downfield and hesitated resulting in her rolling the ball to Odom. From 20-yards out, Odom pooched the ball over Esquivel and into the open goal. The goal was her fourth goal of the season (third against UTPB this season) and it matches her career-high for goals in a game (2, her first was 9/12/12 vs. Huston-Tillotson). LCU was not done spreading the wealth, as Jessica Barrera scored her first goal of the season and second of her career by converting on a free kick from 25-yards out. Barrera's goal gave LCU a 4-0 lead.

Lauren Story claimed LCU's fourth shutout of the season (her fourth as well) stopping a pair of shots. Esquivel stopped six of LCU's 10 shots on goal, as LCU held a 10-2 shots on goal advantage. The Lady Chaps out-shot UTPB 18-7 with nine shots in each half. Fellows finished the game with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and had two career points (2 assists) prior to entering the contest.

The Lady Chaps open the season 1-0-0 in Heartland Conference play and they are 4-5-0 overall. They are now 4-0-0 all-time in conference openers, as they went 3-0-0 in conference openers while in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The win was also LCU's first road win of the season (1-3-0). UTPB fell to 1-9 on the season overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. The Lady Chaps return to action Saturday at 2:30 p.m., as they host St. Mary's University at LCU Soccer Field.
