FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (October 5, 2013) - Lubbock Christian University men's cross country program competed in the Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival hosted by University of Arkansas and following a weather delay the Chaparrals finished in 16th among 21 teams in the College Division of the 8k event.
A combined 35 programs took part in the event, with 21 competing in the College Division and 14 in the University Division. Both divisions ran together leading to 327 runners taking part in the race.
LCU averaged a time of 27:54 to finish in 16th place. Isacc Placencia was the only Chaps runner to finish in the top-100, finishing in 81st with a time of 26:15. Joey Villarreal was the only other Chaps runner to make the top-200, finishing in 170th with a finish of 27:26. A pair of Chaps runners were packed together, as Trey Bale finished in 229th (28:15) and Carsten Russell was 230th (28:15). Additional competitors representing the Chaps were Lucas Morris (278th, 29:21), James Atchley (310th, 30:56) and Mateo Espejo (324th, 32:35).
Arkansas won the University Division (24:24 average finish) and Augustana claimed the College Division (25:39 average finish). Texas Tech's Kennedy Kithuka was the individual winner with a time of 23:28.
The next event LCU will compete in is the Cardinal Invitational in San Antonio hosted by University of the Incarnate Word on Oct. 12.
