LUBBOCK, Texas (October 3, 2013) – A career-high 19 kills by Abby White and a notable Kacey Deterding performance comprising of 20 kills and 17 digs boosted Lubbock Christian University over UT-Permian Basin in five sets Thursday night at the Rip Griffin Center.

Offensively, LCU (8-7, 5-2) tied season highs in kills and service aces with 63 and eight, respectively. Defense at the net was a continuance of Tuesday night, with the team again totaling 13 team blocks.

Ariel Fralick delivered an ace on the first play of the game for the Falcons (5-11, 3-3), jump starting UTPB to a 5-1 advantage up until Tyler Webster got the Lady Chaps going with a kill and an ace. A bad set by Erin Fisher put the Falcons in front 14-9, but a kill by White and two aces by Christa Daniel closed the lead to just one point. A Deterding kill tied it up at 18-18 when two Falcon attack errors sandwiched a pair of aces by Amy Edwards to put the Lady Chaps in control, 22-18, and Deterding upped it one more with another kill. However, LCU could not close out the final two points of the set, allowing UTPB to attack at will and close things out, 26-24.

The second set began with the Lady Chaps scurrying out to an 8-2 lead, thanks in part to Edwards, Fisher and Deterding blocking several Falcon attacks. Edwards then served her third ace of the evening to extend the lead to 10-3. A 4-0 run midway through the set brought UTPB to within 16-12, and an ace by Falcon Kelsey Zukowski lessened the lead to three. Deterding and White each countered with a pair of kills to put set two away at 25-16.

The third set consisted of 14 ties and four lead changes, with the Lady Chaps grossing the final lead change of the night at 15-14 on a bad set by the Falcons. A string of three kills by White put LCU up 18-16, and Edwards and Ashlyn Broussard added a kill apiece to compel the Falcons to call a timeout, down 20-17. An ace by UTPB's Jordan McDonald knotted the score at 20-20, but Deterding and White came through with kills for a 23-22 LCU lead. With the Lady Chaps leading 24-23, Morgann Davis hit an errant serve to give the win to the Lady Chaps at 25-23.

A kill by White in the fourth set put LCU on top 9-8 but the offensive firepower died off quickly. Three successive attack errors handed the lead over the Falcons who quickly ran up the score 16-11 and then 18-12. The Lady Chaps managed only four more points the rest of the way, handing the set to UTPB after three attack errors to finish the game, 25-16.

The Lady Chaps came together at just the right time, piecing together five straight points to open the fifth set. Deterding widened the gap to 7-1 on a kill, but the Falcons came soaring back with five uninterrupted points of their own, making the contest close at 7-6. The duo of Ariel Froeschl and White furnished a pair of kills and a block for a 10-6 LCU lead, and an ace by Froeschl put the Lady Chaps in front, 12-8. A kill by Webster put LCU at match point, 14-10, and her eighth and final kill shut things down at 15-10, giving the Lady Chaps their third straight win, their longest winning streak of the season.

Fisher produced 52 assists on the night, Daniel supplied 29 digs and Froeschl accumulated nine blocks.

Four straight road matches await the Lady Chaps, with the first pair taking place next week at McMurry University on October 10 at 7 p.m. and St. Edward's on October 12 at noon.
