STILLWATER, Okla. (September 28, 2013) – Isaac Placencia and Joey Villarreal each finished in the top-10 and led Lubbock Christian University to a 7th place finish in the College Division race of the historic Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State University.
The two runner had to battle the aftermath of showers, which delayed the start of the race several hours. Placencia finished fifth with a time of 26:38 in the 8k event. He was one minute behind Oklahoma Baptist's Adam Godwin, who won the event with a time of 25:38. Villareal was four seconds behind Placencia and finished in seventh place (26:42). Charles Bale was LCU's only other runner to finish in the top-50, finishing in 36th place with a mark of 27:50. Carsten Russell (28:36) finished in 64th place and Lucas Morris (29:43) finished in 92nd to each break the top-100. Also competing for LCU was Jordan Cortez (32:15, 122nd), Mateo Espejo (32:48, 126th) and James Atchley (33:19, 132nd).
There were 147 competitors and 14 teams in the event. The team championship went to Oklahoma Baptist with an average time of 26:51. They had five runners in the top-20. LCU averaged a time of 27:54 and they were the only program with two top-10 finishers.
The Lady Chaps will return to the running trail Oct. 5, competing in the Chili Pepper Invitational hosted by University of Arkansas.
