STILLWATER, Okla. (September 28, 2013) – Lubbock Christian University's Daisy Tuwei completed a top-10 finish to help the Lady Chaparrals finish in seventh place amongst an 18-team field in the College Division race of the historic Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State University Saturday.
The race was delayed several hours due to morning thunderstorms. Tuwei broke 20 minutes in her run, completing the 5k event in a time of 19:56 for a tenth place finish. Gladys Miranda was just 27 second behind Tuwei and completed the course in a time of 20:23 to finish in 25th place. Devin Caballero was the only other Lady Chap to finish in the top-50, finishing in 32nd place with a time of 20:41. A trio of Lady Chaps packed together in the race, as Abbi Brock (21:49) finished in 76th place, Yeslin Frias (21:51) finished 77th and Taylor Ogle (22:09) finished in 86th place. Also competing for LCU was Kayla Ingraham (23:25, 126th) and Desiree Nunes (24:04, 138th).
Hannah Helker of Oklahoma Baptist won the event with a time of 17:41, holding a 1:24 gap over the second place finisher. 158 runners competed in the event. The team victory went to Oklahoma Baptist with an average finish of 19:28. They had five finishers in the top-20. LCU had an average finish of 20:56.
The Lady Chaps will return to the running trail Oct. 5, competing in the Chili Pepper Invitational hosted by University of Arkansas.
