LUBBOCK, Texas (September 28, 2013) – Kacey Deterding's 23 kills, 11 digs and two blocks propelled Lubbock Christian University to a four-set win over Dallas Baptist University on Saturday afternoon at the Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaps (6-7, 4-2 Heartland) were a force at the net, tallying season-highs with 63 kills and 11 team blocks, compared to 49 kills and six blocks by the Patriots (4-10, 2-3). Tyler Webster totaled 15 kills, 17 digs and two blocks while Abby White contributed 13 kills and a pair of blocks.

Kills by Amy Edwards and Webster along with an ace by Kyleigh Lucia put the Lady Chaps up 3-1 early in the first set, and a pair of kills by Deterding extended the lead to 6-3. A 7-2 run midway through the game, comprised of kills by Deterding and Webster and two Deterding aces, extended LCU's lead to 19-11. A kill by DBU's Tiara Iwegbu closed the gap to 23-17, but Deterding finished off the game with another kill for a 25-17 win.

The first Lady Chap point in the second set came by way of a White kill and Erin Fisher added another to decrease DBU's lead to 3-2. A kill by Deterding, ace by Fisher and bad set by the Patriots gave LCU its first lead of the game at 8-7. A 4-0 run by the Lady Chaps produced a 15-10 lead, but a string of errors by LCU allowed the Patriots to tie the game at 17-17. The Lady Chaps seemed in control to take the game with a 24-20 lead, but DBU rallied back to tied things up at 24-24. Edwards and Deterding combined for the final points of the game to earn the win for LCU, 26-24.

The Lady Chaps found themselves down 5-1 in the third set, and kills by DBU's Erika Papadeas grew the lead to 10-4 before two of her four service aces on the day put the Patriots up 16-10. Two kills by White gave LCU hope, down 23-18, but Iwegbu's kill closed the game out at 25-19.

Set four mirrored the beginning of the previous game with the Lady Chaps falling into a 5-1 hole until Webster came through with a kill to end the run by the Patriots. LCU snuck back into the game, tying the score at 8-8 on a kill by Deterding, and a kill and ace by Edwards put the Lady Chaps up 11-8. Iwegbu tied things up at 15-15 with a kill, but Webster and Deterding answered, giving LCU a two-point edge. Another ace by Edwards forced a timeout by DBU at 20-16, but after three Patriot points and a 23-19 LCU lead, Coach Jennifer Lawrence called her team over for a breather. Webster then put down a kill to put the Lady Chaps at match point, but an LCU service error and a kill by Iwegbu forced another LCU timeout at 24-21. Webster again responded with a kill to conclude the match at 25-21.

For LCU, Edwards totaled eight kills and five blocks, Ariel Froeschl recorded a game-high six blocks and Fisher accounted for 56 assists.

Iwegbu led the Patriots with 18 kills, Tyler Bradsher had 23 assists and Cameron Hartson recorded 28 digs.
