CANYON, Texas (September 17, 2013) –A goal from Jasmine Schultz in the 80th minute was just enough to propel West Texas A&M to their first win of the season, a 1-0 non-conference victory against Lubbock Christian Tuesday night at The Pitch. The Buffs were able to get off 25 shots on the Lady Chaps, while the visitors only managed two in the contest.

LCU struggled without its leading (and only) scorer, Jamie Boone, as well as Brooke Wendl, who has taken 16 shots this season, second only to Boone's 17. Boone has scored each of the Lady Chaps' three goals this season.

The Lady Chaps' first shot came in the 80th minute, just nine seconds before Schultz's goal, when LCU's Jessica Barrera's attempt was saved by Yvette Bedoy. Schultz then connected on her shot from the ground just inside the far right wing.

LCU's second attempt, this time by Emily Odom in the 85th minute, was again stopped by Bedoy.

Goalie Lauren Story was hard at work, compiling eight saves on the evening, including back-to-back stops in the 77th and 79th minutes before Schultz's goal made its way through.

Bedoy (1-3-2) earned the win for the Buffs while Story (2-2) took the loss. With the defeat, the Lady Chaps move to 20-5 all-time in non-conference games and 1-1-0 versus Lonestar Conference opponents.

The Lady Chaps travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to face another non-conference opponent in Texas Wesleyan University on September 21 at noon.
