AMARILLO, Texas (September 16, 2013) – Play has been suspended for the Lubbock Christian University men's golf team at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational due to thunderstorms and heavy rain. Through the first round, the Chaps sit tied in 11th place after shooting a combined 294 at the Tascosa Golf Club.

 

Freshman Jarred Jeter led LCU in the first round by shooting a two-under par 70 to tie for ninth in scoring. Junior Blayne Street shot a two-under 35 but followed with a 40 to finish tied for 47th with a 74. Seniors Niel DuPreez and Rusty Keneda both shot a 75 to tie for 58th, while senior Facundo Garcia hit the lone eagle for LCU and sits tied for 85th with a 79.

 

On the day, the Chaps hit for 15 birdies and 47 pars to go along with Garcia's eagle. Jeter contributed a team-high five birdies.

 

Wayland Baptist and Oklahoma Christian lead the 16-team field, each carding a 277 for an 11-under par. Colorado School of Mines sits in third with a 281, while CSU-Pueblo and host West Texas A&M are tied for fourth with 283 on the par-72 6,538-yard layout. Matt Porter of CSU-Pueblo and Anders Ellingsberg of Wayland Baptist sit atop the leaderboard with a 65 for 7-under par.

 

The field made it through approximately 12 holes in the second round and will resume play 8 a.m. tomorrow morning with the conclusion of the second round followed by the third round.
