LUBBOCK, Texas (September 13, 2013) – The Lubbock Christian University women's cross country team competed in their only scheduled local event Friday night, as they competed in the Texas Tech Open and finished in seventh place.
Texas Tech hosted the event at Meadowbrook Golf Course and the Lady Chaps were one of 13 teams competing. LCU finished with an average time of 22:12 in the 5k race, finishing just ahead of South Plains College, who was an average time of four seconds behind LCU. Texas Tech won the event with three of the top six runners and an average finish of 19:44.
Gladys Miranda was the top LCU finisher, with an 18th place finish. She posted a time of 20:47. Two additional runners finished in the top-50, with Daisy Tuwei (21:53) finishing 36th and Devin Caballero (22:25) finishing 50th. Abbi Brock (22:49, 63rd), Yeslin Frias (23:06 69th) and Taylor Ogle (24:02 87th) each finished in the top-100 for LCU. Other competitors for LCU included Desiree Nunes (26:04, 107th), Kayla Ingraham (26:11, 108th) and Erin Bailey (28:24, 115th).
Sharlene Nickle of Texas Tech topped the field of 122 runners with a winning time of 19:05. The Lady Chaps will head to Stillwater, Okla. on Sept. 28 for their next race, which is the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State University.
