LUBBOCK, Texas (September 13, 2013) – The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals were able compete in front of their local fans Friday night and the men's cross country program finished seventh in the Texas Tech Open ran at Meadowbrook Golf Course.
Isacc Placencia was the top performer for the Chaps, as he finished 17th in the 8k race with a time of 27:16. He was the only Chaps runner to finish in the top-50. Joey Villarreal (28:53, 55th place), Trey Bale (29:39, 71st place) and Carsten Russell (29:43, 73rd place) each finished in the top-75 for the Chaps. Also competing for the Chaparrals was Lucas Morris (31:01, 65th place), Matt Rodriguez (33:06, 107th place), Mateo Espejo (34:43, 114th place), Jordan Cortez (35:12, 117th place) and James Atchley (40:35, 124th place).
There were 125 runners competing and the top time was turned in by Texas Tech's Kennedy Kithuka, who had a finish of 24:09. Texas Tech had three of the top four finishers to win the 13-team event with an average time of 25:59. LCU had an average finish of 29:18 to finish in seventh place and just ahead of Texas-Permian Basin.
The Chaps next event to compete in is Sept. 28 in Stillwater, Okla., as the Chaps compete in the Cowboy Jamboree.
