Women's Soccer - Fri, Aug. 23, 2013

LUBBOCK, Texas (August 23, 2013) – Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team begins its preseason schedule Friday, although it holds a little more meaning for their opponents, as the Lady Chaparrals faces Colorado State University at 7 p.m. from Texas Tech University's John Walker Soccer Complex.

Colorado State is adding soccer this season and Friday's game marks their first game in program history. CSU, of the 16 NCAA institutions in Colorado, had been the only NCAA program in the state without women's soccer. They now join over 300 NCAA Div. I programs which have women's soccer (women's soccer is the fourth most sponsored sport in NCAA Div. I). CSU has five transfers on their inaugural squad and their preseason exhibition tilt resulted in a 2-0 loss to NCAA Div. II No.10 Metro State in Denver. The Rams will remain in Lubbock following the contest to face Texas Tech Sunday afternoon.

LCU may not be in their first season, but the fourth-year program may be just as eager as CSU in trying to get on first name bases with their teammates. Friday's game is an exhibition game for the Lady Chaps, who had their first workout of the season Monday. Seven new players (an eighth, Leslie Castellano, is redshirting) join the Lady Chaps for their first head-to-head competition.  As CSU aims for a 1-0-0 start to the season, LCU head coach Alex Denning is aiming to analyze all aspects of his team before their season opener Sept. 5 against University of the Southwest (N.M.).

Admission will be charged at the gate, but LCU faculty and students are admitted free with their LCU IDs. Video of the game and live scoring is available through
