LUBBOCK, Texas (August 16, 2013) – The Lubbock Christian University Athletic Department is pleased to welcome Becca Walters to the administrative staff as the Director of New Media and she will serve as the program's Senior Woman Administrator.
Walters joins the Chaparrals staff from Lebanon, Tenn. based Cumberland University, where she served as a sports information graduate assistant while completing a Master of Business Administration. At Cumberland, she served as the primary media contact for women's volleyball, men's basketball and softball. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native is a former student-athlete at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D., where she played basketball. She claimed a dual Business Administration degree and completed a mass communications minor at BHSU following a year at University of Northern Colorado. Walters also played basketball and was on the track & field team at UNC.
She has spent some time working in professional sports, working in sales for the Indiana Pacers (NBA), the Minnesota Lynx (WNBA) and Sioux Falls Skyforce (NBA-D League). With the Lynx, she also assisted the public relations department with releases and community events. Her first role in collegiate athletics came in 2011, as she served as the assistant women's basketball coach at NCAA Div. II Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. The following year, she joined the sports information staff at Cumberland.
Walters replaces Sierra Lovorn, who moved to Merkel, Texas with her husband accepting a coaching position at Merkel ISD. With LCU, Walters will serve as the primary media contact for women's volleyball, men's basketball, men's and women's golf and softball. Along with her new media duties, she will also perform the duties of the senior womans administrator and will oversee several student-athlete committees such as SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee).
