LINCOLN, Neb. (May 21, 2013) – No.5 Lubbock Christian University begins play in the opening round of the 2013 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club Tuesday.

The Lady Chaps will hit the links at 12:30 p.m. and they seek the same success they had in September, when they defeated over 20 teams in the NAIA Fall Preview held at the same course. LCU won that event by 24 strokes, with Sinae Montoya winning the individual title with a two round total of 140 (-2). She produced a 66 during a round in Lincoln for a program record single-round low. Finishing second in the event was teammate Anna Schopp, who was three-over-par. Schopp is on pace for a program single-season best scoring mark. In 16 rounds, she is averaging 76.1 per-round. The numbers are better than her program record mark of 76.6 per round set last season. Working on a third best single-season program scoring mark is Mariah Montoya, who is averaging a 78 per round through 16 rounds.

Wilderness Ridge welcomes a field of 144 players representing 35 institutions from across the NAIA. Among those qualifying teams is 2013 national championship, British Columbia. In 2012, the Thunderbirds claimed its fourth team championship by two strokes over SCAD Savannah (Ga.) at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn. The field is comprised of 18 automatic qualifying teams from conferences/independents/unaffiliated group tournaments and nine at-large selections, which were determined using the final NAIA Women's Golf Top 25 Poll released May 9. Additionally, nine individuals earned a spot in the event as either a medalist at their respective conference/independent/unaffiliated group tournaments or as an individual at-large selection or a 2012 All-Tournament returner.

For the first time ever, the Women's Golf National Championships will be video-streamed. There will be two cameras covering action at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club, positioned at holes No. 9 and 18. The broadcast is made possible by the Doane College Athletic Department and the Tiger Sports Network. Updates of Tuesday's play will be posted through twitter (@LCUchaps), with live scoring and recaps available through www.lcuchaps.com.
