ARDMORE, Okla (April 23, 2013) – No. 18 Lubbock Christian University was unable to improve on their first two rounds of play at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship, finishing in fifth place with a team total of 944 (313-311-320) on the par 70, 6,586-yard Dornick Hills Country and Golf Club.
Niel DuPreez finished in second place, five-strokes off first place finisher Michael Palmer of OCU. DuPreez recorded rounds of 74, 76 and 74 for a total 224. DuPreez recorded six birdies and 34 pars in two rounds of play. Leon Scheepers finished tied for 19th with a 242 score on rounds of 80, 78 and 84. Blayne Street was 22nd after firing an 83, 80 and 80 for a 243 score. He recording 29 pars. Chad Meador was 23rd with a 244 score (82-80-82), while Nicolas Cornu dropped 14 spots to 26th with a 77, 77 and 95 for a total 249.
OCU won the seven-team tournament capturing their 19th SAC title and 16th in 17 years after recording a team score of 906. OCU had three of the top-six finishers, as Michael Palmer won the tournament with a 219 on rounds of 74, 72 and 73. OCU and Palmer gain entry into the NAIA Championships on May 14-17 at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore.
LCU will now await an at-large invite to the NAIA Championship event. Last season, LCU was left out and was the highest ranked team to miss a berth. The Chaps have never qualified for the event in program history.
